To say that I am proud of the 5th and 6th graders is a tremendous understatement. This Fall the 6th graders served a mean at St. Patrick's in Dubuque. From this after-school opportunity, their eyes were opened and they were humbled by the experience. This experience sparked an amazing idea The 5th and 6th graders asked if there was a way to give back to those individuals. I took a step back as I listened to the most amazing conversation unfold. As the student council, before Thanksgiving, they headed a project to collect money so they could purchase hats and gloves for the men, women, and children who eat as a family at this parish each week. Upon counting the generous donations that were given, the total far surpassed their goal with $238.30.
These wonderful students completed their mission on Thursday, December by shopping for these items. They were so excited to know that they will hopefully be putting a smile on a man, woman, or child's face and helping them to stay warm this winter. From counting (and counting, and counting) the money collected to tying the homemade Christmas tags on each item, so much love and care was put into this project. We hope you all have the most blessed and happiest of Christmases.
